THE 1ST FACE-TO-FACE FOR CHRISTIE AND THE NJEA

New Jersey Education Association President Barbara Keshishian had her first one-on-one meeting with Governor Chris Christie yesterday afternoon in Christie's State House office. According to Christie's spokesman the get together did not go particularly well.

He says the head of the state teachers union has refused to fire the local union leader who wrote a memo hinting that thegovernor should die. Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak says Christie wants Bergen County teachers union head Joe Coppola terminated.

Drewniak says Keshishian walked out of the Monday afternoon meeting with the Governor after refusing to fire Coppola. Coppola has apologized for the memo. Keshishian refused to tell reporters about her meeting with Christie. It wasn't for lack of trying on our part. We followed all the way down State Street to her NJEA Trenton office asking questions along the way. She never stopped walking.

The Bergen County Education Association memo included the following closing prayer: "Dear Lord this year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays. I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor."

Coppola says the "prayer" was a joke and was never meant to be made public.
