New Jersey Education commissioner-designate Chris Cerf is scheduled to go before the Joint Committee on Education tomorrow afternoon. The panel’s chairman, State Senator Ron Rice says it’s unclear if Cerf will actually show up, but he hasn’t been given an indication that he won’t. If he doesn’t, Rice is threatening to use Senatorial courtesy to block Cerf’s confirmation.
Cerf is on the hot seat. As first reported in the Newark Star Ledger, Cerf was the co-founder of a for-profit, private company hired by a private Newark firm looking to change Newark’s schools. Cerf insists he didn’t make money.
