SHOULD NJ'S BEAR HUNT CONTINUE?

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a hunter, but I have many friends who are and I have no philosophical problem with hunting. For the first time in five years New Jersey is in the midst of a six-day bear hunting season.

State officials say there have been too many cases of bears getting too close to humans and their homes. Last week, DEP authorities pegged the bear population at around 3,500.

As of this moment (1:25pm on Friday) 477 bears have been killed in the hunt. Tomorrow is the last day of the hunt, but it is also the only weekend day of the hunt and many are worried that the tally could rise significantly.

Do you think the hunt should be halted now or do you think it should continue for one more day? Please give reasons for your response. Thanks
