SENATE HAS POSTPONED THURSDAY'S BUDGET HEARING

State Senate President Steve Sweeney says Thursday's budget committee hearing will be re-scheduled. Senator Paul Sarlo, the panel's chairman was taken into surgery today to have his appendix removed.

A spokesman for the Senate Democratic Office isn't sure if Sarlo's appendix burst or if the doctors got it just in time, but he was immediately rushed into surgery. I wish the Senator well. I've had my appendix taken out too and the pain leading up to the surgery is not at all fun.

The budget committee was supposed consider several pension reform bills including one that would bar future employees of certain agencies and associations from joinjing the pension system, another that would cap payouts for public workers' unused sick days and vacation time and another to limit disciplinary appeals for public employees.
