If you examine it closely, you can find in Governor Chris Christie's "Budget in Brief" book a plan to possibly merge Thomas Edison State College with Rutgers University. The two reasons given are; "to replicate Rutgers' central role in the revitalization of downtown New Brunswick" and to "allow new clasroom-based services for students in Trenton, while leveraging the two institutions' distance learning programming."

The Council of New Jersey State College Locals AFT/AFL-CIO is already pouncing on the proposal. They want to see studies that makes the case for what they call a "take over." They're asking for any proof of cost savings and they're claiming the Governor is providing, "no information whatsoever."

This leads to two questions.......1) If you're a Rutgers or Thomas Edison graduate or student, do you support the merger? 2) Is this a question of college pride or another New Jersey union fight?

This also apparently involves merging the NJ State Library and the NJ State Museum into Rutgers.

Hey, as a TESC graduate, I'm ok with it. Not that it would put an internationally known name like Rutgers on my 2006 diploma, but it still can't hurt to have my extremely low profile distance school linked to the big R.
