A haz-mat team was sent to New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadango's State House office in Trenton today after white powder was found on a staffer's desk. The substance appeared mixed in with mail that had been delivered.
A short investigation led a State Police spokesman to say the powder was "confirmed to be baking soda."
New Jersey has good reason to take situations like this very seriously. Shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks letters containing anthrax were sent to lawmakers and news groups and were routed through a Hamilton, N.J. post office. Anthrax-laced letters with a Trenton, N.J. postmark took the lives of five people.
