CHRISTIE BLASTS LEGISLATURE FOR AVOIDING THE “BIG THINGS”

CHRISTIE BLASTS LEGISLATURE FOR AVOIDING THE “BIG THINGS”

Today, Governor Chris Christie issued a press release saying, “Since returning from the winter break, it’s clear that when left to its own devices the legislature is slow, ineffective, and downright impotent when it comes to taking action on the big issues facing New Jersey today. Despite promises from the Senate President to move quickly in the New Year to take up shared services reform and pension and benefits reform, there has been no movement – no bill, no hearing and no vote. Where is the action?

There are about 5 months left before the legislature adjourns for the summer to focus (we all assume) exclusively on the November election. Until then, there are many pressing issues facing New Jerseyans which the Governor outlined in his State of the State and at subsequent town hall meetings. The public will not allow the political season to begin in February and squeeze out an agenda that focuses on pension and benefit reform, education reform and the remaining tool kit bills (that the legislature has had since May of last year and yet has only managed to act on 5 of the 20 bills).”

Christie then lit into the Legislature and used today’s committee agenda to make his point.
